Description of Project:

To attend the joint annual meeting of the Archaeological Institute of America and the American Philological Association in Boston, Massachusetts from January 6 – 9, 2005. Dr. Zardaryan will participate in the session “Classical Archaeology in the Caucasus”, where he will present a paper entitled “The Armenian Highlands on the Communication Access South-North during the First Millennium BC.” The paper examines the economic and cultural interrelations between the Armenian Plateau and Mesopotamia, the Iranian Plateau, Northern Caucasus and Northern Black Sea littoral. The paper demonstrates the developing role of Urartu and its successor Classical Armenian Kingdoms within this interregional trade. Dr. Zardaryan supports his assertions with archaeological and written materials from Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman and Armenian sources.
