Description of Project:

This grant is to support continued archaeological research at the cave site of Haikadzor, a suburb of the medieval capital of Ani.  The site includes some Stone Age remains, but is primarily a medieval site.  Excavations were carried out at the site from 2003 - 2006 with impressive results.  This is the only suburb of Ani located in the Republic of Armenia., so this grant offers a unique opportunity to study the material culture of Ani.

 
Anticipated Results:

It is anticipated that further excavations at the site of Haikadzor will reveal more  information regarding the material culture of Ani as well as provide archaeologists with a deeper insight into the lifestyle of the people of Ani.
